Limousine Service

For about the same amount you can hire a limousine service to take you to and from JFK from anywhere in the New York City. JFK airport limousine service provides luxury limos and they service all of New York City ( NYC ) along with New York tri state area.  Well trained chauffeurs provide a safe, dependable, on time service. A ten passenger limo is usually the weapon of choice when hiring a limousine service. If you are traveling with a lot of people this might be your best option as taxis and other car service can only fit about 3 people comfortably. A limo service definitely makes a good alternative to a taxi when traveling to and from JFK International Airport. Limo service companies excel in providing exceptional corporate and professional services in all areas of New York City including  Long Island, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Bronx, Westchester and New Jersey. Hiring a JFK limousine service is also a good option when airport transfer are necessary such as airport transfer between  JFK and  LaGuardia airport, Kennedy to Newark or JFK to Mac Arthur Islip. Long Island only airport. Limousine services provide a easy & comfortable method of getting to or from the airport.

Tip: Ignore offers of transportation from solicitors at the terminals. Go to ground transportation information center located on the lower baggage claim level of all the terminals and ask someone at the counter. For safe and legitimate transportation, your best option is to book your means of transportation before you reach JFK so that everything is arrange for you. When you get to JFK, you can then pickup your lugged and as you exit the gate, a driver will be waiting for you with a sign with your name on it. This is what I would highly recommend.

JFK Airport Transportation

If a limo is not within your budget, then you might want to consider some of the other JFK transportation options.

JFK Car Service

For a little more than a taxi, you can have excellent service in a luxury SUV or sedan. This is a great option if you want to avoid waiting in line for a taxi or if you have a group larger than four people and want to arrange for a van or limousine. Services such as opening doors, helping with luggage, curbside assistance, airport baggage claim greeting, suit & tie attire, and advance reservations are all standard.  If you are traveling with 4 to 7 passengers your best option is to hire a car service company that offers luxury SUV. A luxury SUV from a reputable company will cost you about $85 plus tip and believe me it is worth every penny. JFK Taxi cabs are smelly to say the least and uncomfortable.

If you are traveling by yourself or with someone else then a car service that offers luxury sedans is best suited for you. The chauffeurs are more courteous than taxi drivers and the cars are well maintained. A good car service company will charge between $45 to $55 to and from JFK Airport to NYC.

JFK Taxi

The dreaded JFK Taxi. As a last resort if you didn't book in advance and you are in a hurry do take the yellow taxis found at JFK. Expect to pay around $45 to Manhattan and more to other parts of New York City. This is a no frills ride. Usually in an old yellow taxi with a driver that smells like hot garbage. Taxis are available outside of every terminal and there is typically a taxi stand where you will be directed to a taxi. Taxis into the city take anywhere from 30-60 minutes. They cost $45 "Flat Fare" to Manhattan (as of 2007-07) NOT including bridge tolls and tip but to return to JFK from Manhattan, taxis will charge you the metered rate, plus any applicable tolls. Taxis are cash only. Make sure to hail a cab in the designated areas or ask a uniformed airport employee to help you. Taxi service is available between Kennedy Airport & the five boroughs of NYC, Nassau County, Westchester Airport & Newark Airport but do expect to pay a lot more when going to these destinations. There should not be any additional charges for luggage and rates are based per car, not per passenger up to four passengers.

Don't believe the everything you read, there are ground transportation companies that advertise "JFK Limo Service" offering service to clients 24 hours a day 7 days a week featuring VIP service with private chauffeurs and then when you call no one answers the phone. As with every business, there are limousine companies that provide poor service and then there are companies that puts the customer first. Here are the companies that we recommend for your JFK Transportation.

JFK Ground Transportation

For those traveling on a budget, there is still more available ground transportation options.

Public Transportation

In New York City Traffic is congested and parking is expensive, so we don't recommend renting a car and driving. Public transportation at JFK has improved much since the influx of travelers and commuters in New York City. Luckily for the traveler there are a number of public transportation methods available.

New York City Subway

The New York City Subway 'A' train from Manhattan provides a service to the Howard Beach station. From there a frequent bus service connects to the terminals at JFK airport. Journey time from midtown Manhattan to JFK airport is around 90 minutes. The fare is $2. You can buy a MetroCard® Pay-Per-Ride or 7-Day.  MetroCards are accepted on all MTA buses (local, Limited-Stop and express) and on the subway. All buses accept exact fare in coins, but not pennies or half dollars. If you have large quantities of luggage, you may find it difficult to manage this long trip. Provided the bus operator considers it safe, passengers may be let off along the route at other than an official bus stop only between 10 PM - 5 AM within the New York City. You can also take the free JFK parking shuttle to the long term parking lot. This drops you off right at the "JFK" subway station, which takes you through Brooklyn and connects to all major subway routes.

Shuttle Bus Services

Several companies provide bus/van transportation to JFK. Van services and shared rides are less expensive alternatives to limousine services. Visit our listings for more information. There are a number of shuttle buses that serve hotels, New York City neighborhoods, major transportation terminals and corporate offices with a fleet of modern, comfortable vehicles operated by professional, trained and courteous drivers. These companies operate share ride airport shuttle service door-to-door each way between Manhattan and JFK Airport.

Shuttle and express bus service is available from Kennedy Airport to the Port Authority, Grand Central Terminal & Penn Station.

  • New York Airport Service Express Bus: Makes trips every 15-30 minutes to Port Authority, Grand Central Terminal & Penn Station. $15 per ride. Available from 6:30 a.m. - 11:10 p.m., these shuttles leave every 15-30 minutes. Fare is $13 ($15 if you want to be dropped off at your midtown hotel). The ride takes about an hour. One free child under 12 is included in the fare.
  • Trans-Bridge Bus Line: Tel: 1-800-962-9135. Three trips daily to the Port Authority Bus Terminal. $12 per ride.
  • Super Shuttle: Available 24 hours a day, this shuttle provides door to door service for your party. Fares are $15 - $19, depending on destination. No reservations are required to get from the airport to your destination, but they are required for your return trip to the airport. Consult their website or call 1-800-258-3826 for more information.

AirTrain

Operating 24 hours every day, AirTrain is JFK airport is a new train service that takes you between JFK Airport and the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train, New York City Transit subways, and local buses. AirTrain JFK connects to the A subway train at Howard Beach Station & to the E, J, & Z subway trains or the L.I.R.R. at Jamaica Station.

By connecting with LIRR trains and NYCT subways, AirTrain makes it possible for travelers to avoid traffic and ride the rails to and from the airport. Just as important, it also serves as a convenient on-airport service, as the AirTrain makes frequent stops at airline terminals, parking lots, hotel shuttle areas and rental car facilities.

Cost: $5 Enter/Exit fare + subway

Car Rental

I would recommend visitors to New York City to rent cars, unless they're planning extensive travel outside of the major metropolitan area. Parking in New York City is both expensive and difficult to find, and you will find your money better spent on mass transit or a car service. If you need to rent a car, the following car rental companies operate at JFK International Airport: Avis, Budget, Dollar Rent A Car, Enterprise, Hertz & National Car Rental. Each terminal's arrival level will have either rental car counter or courtesy telephones for each company. Courtesy transportation is available from each terminal to the rental car offices. Car Rental facilities are just off the airport with frequent courtesy shuttles at AirTrain Station C - Federal Circle.

I hope this page had you learn how to get to JFK airport, and how to get virtually anywhere in the region from the airport.
